jason greek mythology strengths and weaknesses

Gill is a Latinist, writer, and teacher of ancient history and Latin. Jason is often depicted as a fully grown man in a classic greek helm and armour, holding a sword or a spear in his hands. He consulted with Argos, one of the best shipwrights at that time. Jason’s second task was to sow dragon's teeth in the plowed field; though a seemingly easy task, its completion resulted in an army of stone warriors springing out from the earth. The god punished him further by sending two harpies to spoil his food, every time, when he was trying to eat. During the night, Jason, Orpheus and Medea approached the sleepless dragon which guarded the golden fleece. First of the line of power, one of the big three. King Pelias consulted an oracle, who told him that he should be wary of a one-sandaled man. A lashing snapped and a rotten piece of the Argo fell on Jason, ending his life and making him a legend. And it just happened to be Jason who in his journey helped an old lady to cross the river Anauros. Jason succeeded, aided in this endeavor by a magic ointment provided by Aeëtes's daughter Medea, on condition that he marry her. The argonauts picked Pollux for a fight and the boxing champion managed to defeat and kill the king. greek-gods.org (c) Copyright 2013 - 2018, all rights reserved. Without many more dangerous encounters, Jason, Medea and the rest of the Argounauts, finally arrived back to Iolcos. Knowing that the creature won't wake up, they un-nailed the golden fleece from the tree and rushed back to the Argo. The rightful prince, Jason was born in the middle of an interfamilial war for the throne of Iolcus. He realised that he would need a fast and enduring boat for such a long journey. However, the angry Aeetes prayed to Zeus to punish Medea and Jason for this unfair son's death. The goal, for Jason to be able to approach the fire-breathing bulls, was to apply this enchanted cream to his skin and protect him from the fire. In the process, of crossing over the rapid flowing river, he lost one of his sandals. Even so, Jason betrayed her and married another woman. King Cyzicus greeted the Argonauts warmly and had given them all the provisions they needed. At night, the Argo set sail once again, but, unfortunately, it was blown back to the island, where the Doliones, thinking they had been attacked by pirates, stormed the ship; in the battle which ensued, many Doliones were killed, including Cyzicus himself who was murdered by Jason. On the way to Colchis, they first stopped at the island of Lemnos where they mated with native women who were cursed with awful smell by Aphrodite for not worshiping her. Aeetes said he would give the fleece to Jason if he completed a few (seemingly impossible) tasks in the course of a single day. From Lemnos, they travelled through Doliones where they stopped for replenishing provisions. His myth begins even before he was born. Medea used Pelias daughters, by demonstrating them how to make their father young again. The trip to Colchis was adventurous, full of battles, nymphs and Harpies, adverse winds and six-armed giants; but eventually Jason arrived at Colchis. Even so, few years after the expedition, Jason deserted her for Corinth’s princess, Creusa; unable to bear the betrayal, Medea murdered both Creusa and her two sons by Jason. However, even in this latter case scenario – having lost the favor of Hera after breaking his vows to Medea – it seems that Jason cut a lonely and desolate figure, only a shadow of the influential captain he had once been. Not favoured by the gods anymore, as Hera had her own satisfaction by Medea killing Pelias which was her plot from the beginning, Jason was left on his own. That circumstance have made Aison king of Iolchus, but Pelias, Cretheus' stepson (and the real son of Poseidon), usurped the crown and tried to kill the infant Jason. His leadership and fearlessness were key attributes for him to get the golden fleece. Gladly accepting the mission to bring the Golden Fleece from Colchis to Iolcus, Jason had a boat built and assembled a party of heroes, collectively called the Argonauts, after the name of the ship, Argo. Knowing that he won't be able to overcome this difficult task, he turned over to beloved Medea to help him with her sorcery. Once grown, Jason made his way back to claim his throne and on the way he met an old woman and carried her across the Anauros or Enipeus River. The Argonauts were about experience the same fate, if it wasn't for Orpheus who had once again saved them by playing a far more powerful song with his lyre.
