I agree with you for the most part, but in my opinion I think that class of 2012-2014 is Late Y, 2015-2016 is Y/Z cusp, Leaning Y, 2017-2018 Y/Z cusp, Leaning Z. Gen X and Boomers were 20 years roughly, but the culture was a lot more stagnant due to slow speeds of trends spreading pre-internet. 1999 were the last to be old enough to form a lifelong memory of 9/11 or earlier and have a childhood (age 2-12) at that time, except late 1999 of course. They would be out of high school well before the turn of the decade. Now pure Gen Z doesn't equal core Gen Z.1997-2001 have no core gen Z traits at all and are purely early Gen Z.Years 2011-2014 also have no core Gen Z traits and I consider them to ether be purely late Gen Z or apart of the Gen Z/Gen Alpha cusp. Flash forward two years when you're 19 and imagine a 17 year old born December 2003 saying they have absolutely nothing in common with people born in 1999 or even 2001 for that matter. I don't think you're all that different compared to someone born 2000 or 1999. Edit: After reading some peoples' responses, I've decided to change my stance to say that anyone born from '96-early '01 is a Y/Z hybrid (Class of 2014-Class of 2019), and anyone born Late '01 and after is pure Gen Z (Class of 2020 onward).
